Drabesi Manor Craft House hosts various events related to traditional culture, crafts, Latvian lifestyle, farming skills and culinary heritage. It also offers lessons on celebrating the seasons, family occasions such as weddings and crucifixions, as well as outings with lectures and demonstrations.
We also act as an exhibition hall - both professional thematic exhibitions and craftsmanship exhibitions are held regularly. In the permanent exhibition of the Crafts House you can see a wide range of ceramics from different periods - Bronze Age moulded clay vessels with stone sparrows, examples of Vidzeme ceramics, black or slip pottery, turned and glazed clay vessels. The largest exposition is of musical instruments - it displays most of the folk musical instruments found in Latvia - wooden, reed and bone pipes, organs, kokles, ermonicas, bagpipes, basses and others. Almost all of them are made by the craftsman Andris Rose.
You can learn how to play the kokle, the basics of belt weaving, pastal making, glass painting, jewellery making, kokle making and other useful skills. With the support of the Latvian School Bag project, you can take part in "Butter churning" classes and learn about the history of ancient musical instruments and the processes of their making, with the opportunity to try out their sound under the guidance of Andris Roze. In a separate offer, we introduce the processing of wool - from sheep to cloth.
